Hi, I'm Dan.
I help small, local businesses run better without losing what makes them local.
01 - Where I come from.
A small town, and the people in it.
I grew up on a cattle farm in a small town. People there helped each other and went out of their way to do it, because everyone knew they'd need the community to back them up someday. After college I moved to Colorado, and I've been looking for that feeling ever since.
Today
I live on a tiny farm in Brighton with my wife, my son, and my dog
I teach business classes at Front Range Community College
In my spare time I'm outside or in my woodshop
02 - What I've done.
Small businesses, from the inside.
I started my career in audit at a big accounting firm, working with small companies. I kept finding I cared more about how the business ran than the minutia of how the books balanced. Since then I've worked in accounting, finance, and operations at several companies, and the ones I've worked at most recently were not much bigger than the businesses I help now. I've held roles that cut across departments, so I know a business has to be seen as a whole before anything gets changed.
Along the way
Audit at a big accounting firm, working with small companies
Accounting, finance, and operations roles at several companies
Recent work at companies close in size to my clients
Roles that spanned departments
03 - Why I started this.
Keeping local businesses local.
The owners I keep coming back to got into business because they love the work. They farm, bake, run pipe, wire houses, or had an idea nobody else was offering. Now a lot of them are buried in paperwork after the kids go to bed, too busy keeping the business afloat to enjoy it.
I've also watched some of my favorite local service providers get bought up by private equity and turn from trusted partners into profit-maximizing corporations. I want to use what I've learned to help the Davids go up against the Goliaths, so local companies can stay competitive while remaining true to themselves.
What I promise
I'll speak plainly
I'll be transparent about what I find and what it costs
I'll never sell you anything you don't need
NICE TO MEET YOU
